Being born in Juneau as a half Tlingit Indian, half milkman/mail carrier, he was also raised part time up the river in Haines with his grandmother, where his understanding for his culture and people flourished through ancient stories told around the campfire, as well as from learning how to gather food and live off the land and sea. His respect for these lands and his ancestors continued to grow, as he learned the many canoeing techniques that his family has been using on these waters for over 11,000 years. He feels this history is ever present on any tour that he personally leads, although these are few and far between these days, due to his travel schedule for his next upcoming movie-making adventure, about where the Tlingit silver bracelets come from, that you will find in the many gift shops throughout SE Alaska. It will be a modern day Treasure Hunt with reenacted scenes from the Wild West days from the late 1880-1890’s.

Cory’s first movie – Smokin’ Fish – has WON well over 20 Awards at Film Festivals ALL over the WORLD:

Cory Mann is a quirky Tlingit businessman hustling to make a dollar in Juneau, Alaska. He gets hungry for smoked salmon, nostalgic for his childhood, and decides to spend a summer smoking fish at his family’s traditional fish camp. The unusual story of his life and the untold history of his people interweave with the process of preparing traditional food as he struggles to pay his bills, keep the IRS off his back, and keep his business afloat. By turns tragic, bizarre, or just plain ridiculous, Smokin’ Fish tells the story of one man’s attempts to navigate the messy zone of collision between the modern world and an ancient culture.

Watch the official trailer of Smokin Fish, Cory’s first full feature movie, that he made about his “village” life as an aspiring entrepreneur in and around Juneau. Smokin’ Fish has WON over 20 AWARDS at Film Festivals ALL around the WORLD! It still airs on PBS, the Juneau library, and is required watching for the SE Alaska Coast Guard to learn about the Tlingit natives fishing culture through out the SE water ways.
